Mjällby Secures Strong Start in Champions League Qualifiers
Mjällby has secured a convincing start in the Champions League qualifiers. At Strandvallen, they defeated Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar with a clear 3-0 result.
– We are a good team, says Áki Samuelsen, who scored twice for the team, to Aftonbladets reporting.
The home team quickly broke through after just 18 minutes. Áki Samuelsen received the ball just outside the penalty area and placed the opening goal. Minutes later, he scored his second of the game.
– The second goal was nicer; it has been a good first half for us. We are a good team so now we need to keep going to have good prospects for the next match, Samuelsen said at halftime.
Elliot Stroud on the Move?
The home team from Listerland needed only 18 minutes to break through. VM player Elliot Stroud is close to leaving and sports chief Hasse Larsson has acknowledged this.
– Hopefully it will work out with some club so he can fly away, says Larsson to Aftonbladet.
In the second half, Mjällby had the chance to put the tie to bed. But Samuelsen, who had a chance at a hat-trick, missed his penalty and the match ended 3-0.
