Mjällby AIF were comprehensively beaten 4-0 away to Djurgården in the Allsvenskan. The match, reported by SVT Nyheter, featured an assist masterclass from Djurgården's Bo Hegland, who is now just one assist away from a historic league record.
The 22-year-old Hegland set up both of Kristian Lien's goals and Patric Åslund's opener in the 26th minute. His second assist, a perfectly weighted through ball to Lien, even drew a reaction from the goalscorer. "I don't understand how he sees that pass", Kristian Lien said afterwards. Hegland's two assists were his 13th and 14th of the season. That leaves him just one assist shy of Magnus Wolff Eikrem's Allsvenskan single-season record of 15, set in 2015. "Of course I have the record as a target. So I'm fighting for it but the main focus is on getting three points", Hegland stated.
How did Mjällby's defence perform?
Mjällby's defence had a difficult evening against an efficient Djurgården side. Goalkeeper Robin Wallinder was unable to stop the four balls that found the net. The team, who surprisingly won the title last year, continues to accumulate losses in a tough season. According to the latest standings, Mjällby sit in 12th place in the Allsvenskan with 20 points from 18 games. Statistics from 06 September 2026 show a recent form of five straight losses (LLWLL) and a goal difference of minus five (24 scored, 29 conceded). They are a full 22 points behind league leaders Sirius.
Which other players stood out?
Beyond Hegland and Lien, Djurgården also got contributions from younger talents. The 16-year-old Alexander Andersson came on as a substitute and provided the assist for Oskar Fallenius's fourth and final goal. The victory propelled Djurgården up to third place in the table. During the match, the home side also presented their new signings Charlie Rosenqvist and Abdul Abdulmalik to the crowd.
What's next for Mjällby?
The defeat means Mjällby must reverse their form quickly. The team has an immediate chance for revenge this Thursday when the sides meet again, this time at Mjällby's home ground Strandvallen. Following that, an away fixture against Väsertäs SK FK awaits on October 18th, which you can find on our fixtures page. Väsertäs currently sit eighth in the league. To turn their season around, the team needs to find greater stability, something players like Tom Pettersson and the rest of the squad will be working hard to achieve.
