Kalmars star striker Charles Sagoe Jr. played a key role as his side secured victory against Mjällby on home soil at the Guldfågeln arena. The match saw Kalmar begin with a dream start, thanks to Elliot Stroud who took advantage of Mjällby’s defensive struggles by scoring in just the third minute.
Stroud, known for his technique and precise shots, was close to adding another goal but his lob attempt, despite starting well near the left post, was deflected wide by Kalmars goalkeeper Samuel Brolin. However, the visiting team's early advantage didn’t last long as Mjällby faced a fightback from their opponents.
In the 17th minute, substitute Aboubacar Keita contributed a goal after coming back from his nine-month injury layoff. The American forward, Sagoe Jr.'s assist partner, scored his first goal in Allsvenskan, bringing Kalmar level at 1-1 with an excellent header.
Kalmar then capitalized on their momentum to take the lead again in the second half. Charles Sagoe Jr., recognized for his assist skills, found the back of the net himself six minutes before halftime by scoring from close range after a corner kick was delivered to his feet in the penalty area. This was Sagoe Jr.'s second goal in Allsvenskan and contributed to Kalmar’s ongoing unbeaten streak at home.
Kalmars victory means they are now level on points with Mjällby in the table, improving their standing significantly after having not lost a match since their debut game against Västerås on April 5. The win secured three valuable points while maintaining Kalmar’s strong form.
