Mjällby AIF have changed head coach. Karl Marius Aksum has left and been replaced by Andreas Brännström after a run where the team managed just one win in 13 attempts.
"The Doctor" Karl Marius Aksum was sacked and replaced by Andreas Brännström, the club confirms. The change comes during a difficult period for the Blekinge-based side, who sit 12th in the Allsvenskan with 21 points from 20 games. The team has lost four of its last five matches and conceded 34 goals this season.
A fresh start
"Brännan" managed to conduct one training session before the match against Häcken, according to the new coach himself. His first game in charge ended in a 1-1 draw away to Häcken on September 11th, with Jacob Bergström scoring Mjällby's goal. It was a step forward after a series of heavy defeats, including 0-4 against Djurgården and 1-4 at home to IFK Göteborg.
Brännström has previous experience with both Mjällby and AIK, where he notably managed a chaotic spring in 2023. His task now is to fix a defence previously described as leaking like a sieve. Despite the slump, the squad retains quality from last season's double-winning campaign, offering hope for a turnaround.
The injury list
Mjällby face AIK with several key absences. Recent signing Villum Dalsgaard is injured, as are Aki Samuelsen and Paul Colley. No players are suspended. The team's top scorer in the Allsvenskan so far is Jacob Bergström with eight goals.
